ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Kauai Economic Opportunity, Inc. (KEO) is a mission-driven nonprofit community action
agency dedicated to improving the quality of life and economic self-sufficiency of Kauai
residents. KEO delivers a broad range of programs and services that address critical
community needs, including economic opportunity, social services, and community
development.
KEO works closely with community partners, funders, government agencies, and residents to
strengthen Kauai’s social and economic fabric and ensure that services are responsive,
effective, and grounded in the values of the island community.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic, operational, and cultural leader of
Kauai Economic Opportunity (KEO). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is
responsible for advancing KEO’s mission, stabilizing and strengthening the organization, and
ensuring long-term sustainability through effective leadership, transparency, and
accountability.
The CEO provides vision and direction across all aspects of the organization, including
program effectiveness, financial stewardship, fundraising and funding diversification,
community and government partnerships, and staff development. This role requires a visible,
hands-on leader who understands Kauai’s unique community context and can guide the
organization through a period of transition—rebuilding trust, aligning programs with mission
outcomes, and translating strategic priorities into measurable impact.
Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of leadership experience in nonprofit, public,
mission-driven organizations or related fields. - Senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, public, or mission-driven organization
preferred. - Demonstrated success managing complex operations, programs, and teams.
- Strong financial and organizational management skills. Experience with government
funding, grants, and nonprofit financial sustainability - Strong people leadership and organizational development background;
- Entrepreneurial and adaptive leadership style.
- Proven ability to build relationships with boards, funders, and community
stakeholders. - Excellent communication and leadership presence.
- Knowledge of Kauai’s community and social services landscape, or the ability to build
trust quickly in island communities. - Experience leading community-based or human services organizations highly desired.
- Excellent leadership presence – and grant writing
