REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and have three direct reports: controller/director of accounting, FP&A manager, and treasury analyst. Indirect reports include 15 team members across the finance department. This role will have regular reporting to the board of directors.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive team that will help define company strategy and manage growth. They will be responsible for the accounting and financial operations of the company, including the development of a financial strategy, financial reporting, budget/forecast management, compliance, tracking of relevant KPIs, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive financial strategy that meets operational and capital requirements.
- Perform analysis of the company's financial position and issue periodic reports on the organization's financial stability, liquidity, and growth.
- Direct treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, long-range forecasting, compliance, and insurance activities.
- Direct and coordinate the development of the annual budget and forecast.
- Analyze capital investments with discounted cash flow models to help make decisions on investments (e.g., new stores, remodels, etc.).
- Analyze, consolidate, and direct all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
- Direct and analyze studies of general economic, business, and financial conditions and their impact on the organization's policies and operations.
- Analyze operational issues impacting functional groups and the company and determine the financial impact.
- Establish and maintain relationships with financial institutions, trustees, auditing firms, and the investment community.
- Provide accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budget reports, and forecasts.
- Drive department process improvements to maximize efficiency and profitability, identifying opportunities to streamline operations, improve technology, and reduce costs.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and application of best accounting practices.
- Collaborate with other members of the executive team to support the company's overall growth and success.
- Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Experience as a CFO, or accomplished financial professional, working for or in a multistate retail, grocery, wholesaler, accounting, or CPG company.
- 10+ years of practical experience building and maintaining financial models.
- Experience with strategic planning, development, and execution.
- Proven track record of managing mergers and acquisitions of small- to mid-size businesses.
- Prior experience presenting to a board of directors or high-level executives.
- Excellent leadership presence with strong relationship and influencing skills.
- Prior experience leading companies through business transformation.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA a plus.
- Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent business experience preferred.
