Data Center Electrical Operations ManagerLocation: Spartanburg, SC
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Electrical Operations Manager to oversee all electrical operations for a large-scale High-Performance Compute Center (HPCC) and its supporting on-site power infrastructure.
This position provides leadership and direction to a team of electrical subject matter experts (SMEs) and contracted service operators, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems in a mission-critical data center environment. The role is responsible for maintaining compliance with all operational standards, safety codes, and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement and reliability across the facility.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, proven operational leadership, and the ability to coordinate effectively across electrical, mechanical, and controls teams within a high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a department of electrical SMEs and contracted service providers.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, and escalation protocols to ensure 24/7/365 operational readiness.
- Promote continuous training and professional development to maintain technical depth and compliance.
- Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Direct daily operations of electrical infrastructure, ensuring uptime and system reliability.
- Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), one-line diagrams, and operational documentation.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations (NFPA 70E, OSHA, NERC, etc.).
- Implement and enforce lockout/tagout, energized work, and arc flash safety programs.
- Conduct audits, reliability assessments, and system testing to ensure ongoing operational readiness.
- Lead root-cause analyses and corrective actions following electrical incidents or outages.
- Manage coordination between electrical operations and on-site power generation systems.
- Support load management, redundancy, and expansion planning for critical systems.
- Define and monitor KPIs related to reliability, maintenance, and safety performance.
- Prepare and deliver operational performance reports to leadership.
- Oversee vendor and contractor performance to ensure SLA compliance and service quality.
- Lead annual reviews of team performance, staffing, and system reliability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Mechanical, Controls, and Operations teams to ensure integrated site performance.
- Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, technology upgrades, and team training.
- Participate in planning and execution of expansions, retrofits, and system upgrades.
- Represent the Electrical Operations function in internal briefings, safety drills, and technical reviews.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in electrical operations, power generation, or mission-critical facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems, substations, switchgear, UPS systems, and high-density power infrastructure.
- Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams, including SMEs and contracted operators.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and electrical safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E, NERC, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience managing electrical operations within high-availability, mission-critical environments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
