Description
Job PurposeThe Data Engineering Manager (Datahub Migration) is responsible for planning and delivering the end-to-end migration of an existing analytics system to new analytics platform, from initiation and planning through execution, cutover, and post-migration support, including vendor management.
The role ensures scope, schedule, data pipeline management, technical evaluation, budget, risk and quality are effectively managed, stakeholders are aligned, and migration outcomes are achieved in accordance with client governance and security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full Datahub migration lifecycle: initiation (charter, resourcing), planning (scope, cost, schedule), execution (build, test, data validation), cutover, and post-migration support.
- Develop and maintain the integrated migration plan, RAID log, and status dashboards, track milestones and dependencies across Client, incumbent vendor and source system teams.
- Drive governance e.g. steering committee, working groups; prepare materials and secure decisions from sponsors and stakeholders.
- Coordinate environment readiness, IDMC data pipelines and ETL/ELT jobs; ensure migration runbooks and rollback plans are in place.
- Oversee cutover rehearsals and go-live; lead issue triage and stabilisation to meet agreed SLAs.
- Manage vendors and delivery teams; clarify scope, deliverables and acceptance criteria; ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
- Ensure compliance with Client data governance and cybersecurity requirements (e.g., IM8) and approved data-sharing patterns where applicable.
- Identify and manage risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies; implement mitigation and contingency plans.
- Prepare clear updates, minutes, submissions and papers; communicate progress and variances to sponsors and management.
- Define and track migration KPIs (e.g., data quality, success rate, defect leakage, schedule adherence).
- At least 8 years of relevant IT/Data experience with a minimum of 4 years in project management delivering data engineering/migration initiatives.
- Manage end-to-end data engineering lifecycle for ingestion from multiple source systems.
- Lead development of reusable frameworks, templates, and connectors for data migration and synchronization.
- Hands-on familiarity coordinating work involving data integration platforms and analytics stacks; Expertise with either Informatica IDMC or Databricks is preferred.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical thinking and risk management abilities.
- Prior experience in healthcare or public sector environments is an advantage.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and data security/governance practices.
