Position Overview

We are working with a leading financial services client who are looking for an experienced data governance professional to lead the development and implementation of enterprise-wide data governance and data quality practices.

This role sits within the enterprise analytics function and is responsible for strengthening data management capabilities, improving data quality, and embedding governance frameworks that enable effective decision-making and risk management.

The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing data ownership models, operationalising critical data elements, and improving visibility of data across the organisation through enhanced lineage and governance processes.

A core focus of the role will be partnering with business leaders and data stakeholders to improve accountability for data assets and drive a culture of effective data stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

Data Governance

• Develop and implement enterprise data governance policies, standards and procedures
• Establish governance structures to support effective management of organisational data
• Facilitate governance forums and working groups to support cross-functional collaboration

Data Quality Management

• Implement frameworks to monitor and improve data quality across critical datasets
• Define and track key data quality metrics
• Establish preventative and detective controls across the data lifecycle

Critical Data Elements

• Identify and maintain a catalogue of critical data elements
• Map controls and quality measures to key data assets
• Ensure ongoing monitoring and governance of critical data

Data Lineage and Metadata

• Develop enterprise data lineage for key datasets and reporting flows
• Improve visibility of how data moves across systems and business processes
• Maintain metadata and documentation supporting data governance activities

Data Risk Management

• Support the development of a data risk management framework aligned with enterprise risk practices
• Identify and assess data-related risks across business processes
• Implement controls and monitoring mechanisms to mitigate risk

Data Ownership and Stewardship

• Define and document responsibilities for data owners, stewards, and consumers
• Embed accountability for data quality within business functions
• Support collaboration across departments where shared data ownership exists

Data Literacy and Adoption

• Promote greater understanding of data management practices across the organisation
• Develop training and communication initiatives to support adoption of governance frameworks

Skills and Experience

• Significant experience in data governance, enterprise data management, or data risk management
• Demonstrated experience implementing data governance frameworks within complex organisations
• Strong knowledge of data quality management, metadata management and data lineage practices
• Experience working in regulated environments such as financial services, banking or insurance
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional initiatives
• Experience with reporting and visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
