Description

The Charles W. Gehrke Proteomics Center at the University of Missouri–Columbia (MU) is searching for a qualified Senior Research Specialist with experience preparing and analyzing protein and peptide samples using mass spectrometry. Working in a core facility requires the candidate to process samples for MU and external clients and provide them with interpreted and validated data along with detailed reports. The candidate must be able to communicate with diverse groups of scientists that have a range of mass spectrometry experience.

Key Duties Performed By This Position Will Include

  • Plan and execute proteomics experiments using SOPs
  • Develop and implement novel proteomic analyses (e.g. PTM analyses, SRM, DIA)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS systems
  • Ensure data quality by performing routine assessment and calibration of LC-MS/MS systems following pre-defined SOPs
  • Prepare samples, analyze and interpret MS data
  • Prepare result reports and meet with Proteomics Center users to discuss the results
  • Contribute to scientific manuscripts and grant applications
  • Engage in activities and meetings to promote the Charles W. Gehrke Proteomics Center


Requirements

The candidate’s research specialization / experience MUST be in mass spectrometry with a focus one or more of the following areas: analytical chemistry, metabolomics, proteomics, biomarkers, drug analysis, protein structure, quantitative mass spectrometry or mass spectrometry imaging. Experience and a record of accomplishment in chromatography and mass spectrometry via peer-reviewed publications is highly desirable. Experience or willingness to learn development and validation of LC-MS/MS assays and procedures is a plus for the position.

Minimum education: M.S. or Ph.D. degree with at least two years of experience in mass spectrometry.
