Description
Kelly Engineering is currently seeking an experienced Lab Automation Software Engineer to join a long-term team in Lake Jackson, Texas! The Lab Automation Software Engineer will be responsible for developing, configuring, implementing, and supporting software solutions for The Dow Chemical Company's PSP&H Global Characterization Team for instrument control systems, dashboards and analytic tools, data management tools and documentation. The candidate will work closely with the lab analysts as well as the Digital Capability team and data analytics subject matter experts (SME). The role requires working and communicating across the Global Characterization team, including lab analysts, scientists and leaders located in Lake Jackson, TX as well as in Europe.The Lab Automation Software Engineer must have the capacity to learn the work processes in analytical labs to support the automation of data entry & upload to database, as well as identify improvement opportunities for developing macros/digital tools to improve lab efficiency. In addition, the individual must be able to work with moderate supervision from the senior members of the Digital Capability team. This person should have or be able to quickly develop a good working knowledge of both existing and new instrument user interface, data management tools, Lab Information Management (LIMS) systems and R&D lab equipment and data needs.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Development, testing and implementation of software (macros, customized digital tools etc.) per SME's directions.
- Frequent support to troubleshoot software and control system technologies.
- Work with peers in the testing and implementation of software systems.
- Communicate efficiently and effectively through prepared documentation, team communiques and ad hoc discussion.
- Constantly optimize work processes, tools, and procedures to improve results and productivity.
Education/Certification Requirements:
- An Associate in Computer Science or Engineering related degree is the minimum requirement for this role.
- A Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or Engineering related field is preferred
- 0-7 years of related work experience.
- Must have: VBA experience and one of the following: Python, Matlab
- Great to have: Experience with Oracle database
- Great to have: experience with analytical labs
- Great to have: Development experience within Microsoft .NET framework: VB.NET, C#, SQL
