Assistive Technology Training Specialist
Part-Time | Approximately 10–15 hours per week
$16–$18 per hour, based on experience and education
Lexington, Kentucky (hybrid option may be possible for the right candidate)
Bluegrass Council of the Blind (BCB) is seeking a skilled and patient Assistive Technology Training Specialist to provide individualized training to adults who are blind or have low vision.
Primary responsibilities include training clients to effectively use Freedom Scientific software, particularly JAWS screen reader and ZoomText magnification/screen-reading software, to increase independence at home, in education, and in the workplace.
The ideal candidate will have:
Excellent or above-average proficiency with JAWS and ZoomText.
Experience teaching or providing one-on-one technology training.
Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt instruction to individual learning styles and needs.
Freedom Scientific certification or willingness to obtain certification before hire.
Knowledge of Windows computers and common applications, including Microsoft Office and web browsers.
Knowledge of Apple accessibility features, including VoiceOver, Zoom/magnification, and other accessibility tools on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, is a strong plus but is not required.
This is a flexible, part-time position averaging approximately 10–15 hours per week based on training referrals. The position is ideal for someone with strong assistive technology skills who enjoys helping people with vision loss gain confidence and independence through technology.
