Description
Join a small, senior team building and modernizing ODSeasyNet, an oncology information system used by hospitals and cancer centers across Germany, Switzerland, and beyond - where the code you ship directly supports patient care, tumor board decisions, and cancer registry reporting. You'll learn the craft inside a mature, mission-critical system while contributing to its ground-up rewrite onto a modern Java stack - with hands-on mentorship and a strong mandate to use AI-assisted development as a core part of how we work.Activities
You'll start by fixing well-scoped bugs, implementing small features, and adding test coverage in our current ASP.NET Web Forms / C# / Firebird codebase - growing into larger work as you ramp up. Expect to pair regularly with senior engineers, review your own work critically, and ask questions openly. You won't be handed tickets in isolation - you'll sit close to QA and domain experts and learn how regulated medical software actually gets built.
Requirements
Must have
- A completed degree, bootcamp, or equivalent self-taught foundation in software engineering - with at least one real project (internship, thesis, open source, side project) you can walk us through in detail.
- Working knowledge of an object-oriented language - Java, C#, Kotlin, or similar - and comfort with SQL basics (SELECT, JOIN, simple schema design).
- Genuine curiosity about reading other people's code. You're not afraid of a large unfamiliar codebase; you'll open the file and start exploring.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development - Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar. You use these tools daily, and - critically - you verify their output and can tell when they're wrong. If you're not there yet but actively learning, tell us how.
- Written and spoken English and German for async collaboration.
Nice to have
- Any exposure to web frameworks - ASP.NET, Spring, Jakarta EE, Vue, React - from coursework or side projects.
- A contribution to an open-source project, however small.
- Basic Git workflow: branches, pull requests, resolving a merge conflict without panic.
- Interest in healthcare, regulated software, or the "why" behind GxP / 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
Team
You will work in an international team of developers.
Application Process
We have short decision-making processes. You will first have an interview with our department lead and later meet the international team and our CEO.
