- Software Engineering Manager - Embedded Automotive Systems
Description
An established global automotive technology manufacturer is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead its embedded software organization. This highly visible role combines people leadership, technical direction, and organizational development with responsibility for delivering reliable, production-ready software across globally distributed teams.
The position reports to a senior engineering executive and may be based in West Michigan or the Metro Detroit area. The role follows a hybrid schedule and requires occasional travel to other company locations and customer or supplier sites.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a globally distributed embedded software team.
- Establish clear priorities, ownership, accountability, and performance expectations.
- Provide leadership across the full software lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through integration, validation, launch, and production support.
- Ensure end-to-end requirements traceability across architecture, implementation, testing, and product performance.
- Strengthen development practices, tools, and technical capabilities to improve software quality, predictability, and execution.
- Partner with Systems, Hardware, Program Management, Quality, Manufacturing, customers, and suppliers.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Significant embedded software leadership experience within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
- Experience leading software engineers across North American and international teams.
- Demonstrated success delivering embedded products through development, validation, launch, and production.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture, requirements management, integration, verification, validation, and configuration management.
- Experience with ASPICE, the V-model, ISO 26262, AUTOSAR, automotive cybersecurity, and disciplined practices such as automated testing and static and timing analysis.
- A practical leadership style with demonstrated success developing people, improving execution and accountability, and leading sustainable organizational change.
- Experience with software-defined vehicle technologies, electronic control units, mechatronic systems, or related embedded automotive applications would be especially valuable.
