Job SummaryReporting to the SVP, President - DFW West Region & BSW All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth, the VP Chief Operating Officer (COO) - All Saints plans, oversees, and leads daily operations at BSW All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). This includes all hospital units, professional services, help functions, and other services. The COO ensures BSWH hospitals deliver high-quality patient care and efficient services cost-effectively. They oversee and manage the development and implementation of hospital plans, policies, programs, and initiatives to meet financial, service, quality, regulatory, and community targets. The COO manages activities to assess, measure, and evaluate current and proposed hospital programs, processes, and practices, implementing improvements as needed. They ensure hospital operations comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, accrediting agency standards, and BSWH policies. The COO executes the strategy decision of the organization made by the President in consultation with CMO dyad partner (25% Strategy/75% Operations). The COO may represent the hospital and its units to external authorities or constituencies (10% external/90% internal). They work closely with the hospital President, clinical leadership, and the BSWH executive team to improve and grow hospital operations according to BSWH strategies and goals.
An entity Vice President (VP) develops strategy and business plans for business units. A business unit may include smaller entity vice presidents, like small hospitals or clinics. The VP manages strategy execution, identifies resource needs, and guides significant tactical recommendations. They focus on current-year operations and help establish multi-year strategies and business plans. Mistakes at this level can have a long-term negative effect on the organization's success. The VP manages and directs a single business unit or region. They typically oversee many levels of subordinate directors and managers with varied skills. They have managerial accountability for staffing and budgets for a large span of control, with at least two managers or directors. The VP exercises wide latitude in setting targets and approaches to critical assignments. They are accountable for executing part of the business strategy.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the chief operations officer (COO) and top operations leader for BSWH All Saints.
- Develops and implements the short and long-term operational objectives which enables the highest quality of health care services, patient safety, and patient satisfaction for the communities served.
- Leads initiatives and programs to improve operations and build consensus, alignment, and focus on operational priorities and objectives that are in line with BSWH business objectives.
- Oversees financial management of operations including costs, business performance, budget approvals, variance reviews, and cost benefit analysis for new programs and services.
- Leads the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, processes, and best practices for assigned facilities and services.
- Implements controls for effective and efficient utilization of organizational and financial resources and monitoring a system of accountability, operational dashboards, and metrics for the assigned area.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements and standards.
- Oversees operational activities focused on improving metrics related to the quality of care, patient safety, and patient experience, including evaluation of patient satisfaction scores and the development of appropriate actions plans.
- Identifies and resolves operational problems and leads the implementation of solutions and change necessary to continuously improve operations.
- Collaborates with community leaders, physicians, and other healthcare organizations as appropriate to assess community healthcare needs, promote healthcare services, build a positive image for BSWH.
Key Success Factors
- Master's degree strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare operations management at Director level or above. 10+ years of experience preferred.
- 3+ years of healthcare leadership experience at the VP level or above within a short term acute care setting. 6+ years of experience preferred.
- Experience as senior operations leader in a large, multi-site health care system preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of hospital operations, including finance, quality, and service line development.
- Strong financial acumen and skilled at applying operational levers within a healthcare facility to improve business results.
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships with medical staff, including physicians, nursing, and clinical departments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience delivering presentations to executive leadership, operating boards, and community leaders.
